What I’ve been doing
In the Spring of 2014, along with other NGOs, three of The Bridge Fund offices in China were suddenly shut down by the authorities, along with our ability to do business. We had a young family at the time, my wife’s career was in full swing, and we decided the best thing for our kids would be to have a parent raise them full-time. As with every parent on the planet, we want what is best for our kids so I’ve worked very hard to that end. Cooking, shopping, scheduling, driving, and supporting their efforts in school, sports, music, and other extracurriculars. With our eldest now of driving age, and his younger sister starting high school, I’m excited to redirect my talents and get to work in a conventional capacity.
…a little more about me
Diverse Experience
From alternative transportation advocacy to development in Tibet to corn lobbyist to full time parent, I’ve managed teams in organizations large and small, navigating large companies and single households. I’ve been an active volunteer in my kids’ schools, our church, and for various other causes and put a lot of effort into parenting.
Improvisational Acumen
Most of my work experience came without guidance from a predecessor or supervisor. Early on I directed a week-long police-on-bikes conference on my own with 300+ attendees, launched a membership program that garnered 30k recurring members, directed operations for an organization with offices in China, Amsterdam, and Washington, and worked with a lobbying campaign to remedy a trade dispute with Mexico. Recently I’ve applied these skills in my volunteer efforts and in raising two teenagers.
Insatiable Curiosity
I’m rarely satisfied with simple explanations or solutions. I’ve come to realize that there is always something more to the story that is worth exploring- a better way to accomplish something, a higher quality solution, or a better person or contractor for the job. Curiosity is something I have tried to help instill in my children to broaden their learning and understanding of the world around them.
